Oradour-sur-Glane

Located just under an hours drive from Vive le Vert is Oradour-sur-Glane, one of the most haunting and powerful memorials in France. On 10 June 1944, the village was the site of a tragic massacre carried out by Nazi troops, where 643 inhabitants — including women and children — were killed.

Today, the original village has been preserved in its ruined state, with rusting cars, burnt-out buildings, and everyday objects left untouched. A modern memorial centre provides context and history.

A visit here is fascinating yet deeply moving — a solemn tribute to the victims and a reminder of the cost of war.
